W216 WEF/WERF: Real World LOT Nutrient Removal: Achievable Limits and Statistical Reliability
This workshop will present leading-edge information on a topic of great interest: limit of technology (LOT) for nutrient removal, which is typically defined as a total nitrogen (TN) and a total phosphorus (TP) of less than 3.0 and 0.1 mg/L, respectively. Using data and insights from 11 full-scale treatment plants, this program will employ a common statistical evaluation technique to explore the factors that influence the reliability of attaining very low levels of nutrients. Operations experience will be a particular focus and, to hear firsthand perspectives, plant managers and operations supervisors will be invited to discuss their plants, deliver their data, and summarize their experience with these technologies. There is a need to define the capability and reliabilities in the real world situations of wastewater treatment plants approaching the LOT. This effort focuses on maximizing what can be learned from existing technologies in order to provide a data base that will inform key decision makers about proper choices for both technologies and rationale bases for statistical permit writing. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate with WERF researchers, plant managers operating LOT plants, and other experts in deliberations on key questions regarding performance reliability and monitoring.
