W209 Private Sewer Systems: Who Owns Them? Who Builds Them? Who Maintains Them?
Track: Collection Systems
; Facility Operations When: Sunday, October 11, 2009, 8:30am - 5:00pm
Where: Orange County Convention Center, Room 311H, Level 3
This workshop will provide attendees with information that will enable them to oversee sustainable private sewer systems including consideration of design, operation and maintenance (O&M), regulations, and enforcement. It will be helpful to all utilities with private sewers — from very small systems with individual grinder pumps to large systems serving subdivisions, educational or industrial facilities, or shopping centers. The material will cover the real-life problems that can develop, and attendees learn how to proactively address these challenges, including:
Connection approval processes
Ongoing O&M issues that occur as these systems age
Potential sanitary sewer overflow impacts for public systems
Workshop speakers and discussion moderators have extensive knowledge of private sewer challenges. Case-study examples of public utilities or private systems that have successfully addressed specific problems will be presented and exercises will be used to reinforce the learning experience.
