W205 WEF/WERF Understanding Odor and Corrosion in Collection Systems: State of the Science

Track: Collection Systems ; Odors and Air Emissions
When: Sunday, October 11, 2009, 8:30am - 5:00pm
Where: Orange County Convention Center, Room 311A, Level 3
Odor and corrosion in a wastewater collection system are significant issues for utilities. This workshop will provide state-of-the-art information on odor and corrosion assessment, measurement, characterization, monitoring, and prevention. Participants will improve their understanding of:
  • Sources of odor and corrosion in collection systems
  • Treatment options to reduce liquid-phase dissolved sulfide concentrations
  • Compounds that are important to odors and corrosion
  • Mechanisms by which compounds transfer from the liquid to the gas phase
  • Movement of air in the headspace of the collection system
  • The relevant models or tools available

Attendees will also gain insights to how utilities around the country are responding to public complaints and their practical approaches to odor problems that have been shown to be effective.
