W111 Every Drop Counts: Successful Small Scale Reuse
Track: Small Communities
; Facility Operations When: Saturday, October 10, 2009, 8:30am - 5:00pm
Where: Orange County Convention Center, Room 309, Level 3
Reclaimed water can meet water supply needs, but large-scale projects do not always make the most sense. Small-scale decentralized applications provide unique opportunities and challenges. This workshop will present leading-edge information on small-scale projects currently in operation, as well as regulatory background, stakeholder support-building, and financial and planning tools to help participants identify and implement reuse opportunities within their communities. It will show how the triple-bottom-line approach involving concern for the environment, financial sustainability, and respect for local community values can be incorporated to reuse efforts. Attendees will learn about:
Small system management challenges
Guidelines, standards, and regulations
Technologies for smaller scale projects
Developing messages that resonate
Case studies/examples of smaller scale reuse applications
Finances and planning tools
An interactive exercise session will challenge participants to plan a comprehensive reuse program.
