W105 All You Ever Wanted to Know About IFAS and MBBR But Were Afraid to Ask
Track: Facility Operations
; Nutrients When: Saturday, October 10, 2009, 8:30am - 5:00pm
Where: Orange County Convention Center, Room 311F, Level 3
Integrated fixed-film activated sludge (IFAS) and moving bed bioreactor (MBBR) technologies can be attractive alternatives for expanding or upgrading municipal wastewater treatment plants. Through presentations, case studies, and exercises, this workshop will provide a deeper understanding of these technologies, their capabilities and limitations, their advantages and disadvantages in comparison to other small-footprint systems, current full-scale operating experience, and when one technology (IFAS or MBBR) is better suited for a particular project.
Participants will learn:
The fundamentals of the technologies
Process configuration options and when, where, and why each should be considered
Insights to design approaches and considerations from equipment suppliers and consultant engineers
Process implementation, startup, O&M, and reliability and performance considerations based on case studies for a variety of installations and will experience:
An interactive breakout session where knowledge gained will be applied to hypothetical plant expansion/upgrade projects
Opportunities to interact with equipment developers/suppliers
