W101 Wastewater Treatment Microbiology

Using lecture and hands-on activities, this workshop will improve participants’ understanding of biological wastewater treatment through increased knowledge of the types of microorganisms and the relevant environmental factors and metabolic and growth characteristics that affect treatment processes. During an interactive laboratory session, participants will learn how to:
Utilize the microscope, bacteriological staining techniques, and filament identification software
Identify protozoa, metazoa, and filaments and analyze floc
Apply practical information for process control
